Summer Forecast: Sunny with a Chance of Growth

From The Desk:

It was a Saturday evening in June and the rain was just settling in.  I was on my way out to watch a client perform at a local venue here in Nashville.  A couple of young guys just living the dream on stage.  The place started to fill up and before I knew it the crowd was singing along.  Phones in the air snapping pictures.  I’m pretty sure I saw one lady record the entire set without stopping on her iPhone!  She must have that good data plan.

I know what you are thinking.  How does a business consultant end up here.  I asked myself that same question.

But here’s the thing, when I joined Clarity Consulting I knew from the start it was something everyone needed.  That’s why I wanted in!

Doesn’t matter if you are a band and you need a business manager or if you are the local manufacturer and you need front line guidance.  Clarity does what it does best! We bring the numbers to life.

What’s that old saying… Every note tells a story?

Trends:

Is AI replacing bookkeeping?

I get that question all the time.

“Why can’t AI just do our bookkeeping?”

“Shouldn’t AI already know that?”

“My favorite… Why would I pay for that when AI does it for free?”

I always start with bookkeeping because it’s the foundation of every business. And yes, AI is changing bookkeeping. In fact, it’s changing finance as a whole.

My answer is simple:

No, AI isn’t replacing bookkeeping. It’s raising the standard.

Closing the books shouldn’t be a long, painful process anymore. AI can automate routine tasks, speed up reporting, and surface information faster than ever before.

But that shift has created a whole new set of questions.

Can we grow without adding headcount?

Which tasks should we automate to make our team more productive?

How do we measure the return on our investment in AI?

Can we trust the data AI is using to make recommendations?

These are the new finance questions.

And that’s where Clarity Consulting comes in.

AI is only as good as the numbers behind it. If your books aren’t accurate or your financial processes aren’t consistent, AI won’t solve the problem. It will simply give you faster answers based on bad information.

That’s why the foundation still matters.

Clean books. Reliable processes. Meaningful reporting.

Once those pieces are in place, AI becomes a powerful tool. The real value comes from turning that information into decisions that help your business grow.

The finance world has changed.

Business owners no longer want to know what happened last month. They want to know what’s happening today, what’s likely to happen next, and what they should do about it.

At Clarity Consulting, we help bridge the gap between financial data and business decisions through bookkeeping, accounting, and strategic consulting.

Because AI doesn’t replace good financial leadership.

It makes it even more valuable.

Guidance:

Start with the exit in mind, and you’ll build a strong business along the way.

Most Entrepreneurs spend months planning how to start a business.  Very few spend even an hour planning how they will eventually leave it.  The truth is, the decisions you make in year 1 will shape the value of your business in year 10.

At Clarity Consulting we believe every business should be built with the end in mind.  Whether you sell in five years or twenty, creating a valuable business starts on day one!

Here are 5 ways to start your new business with an Exit Plan in mind.

  1. Build Systems, Not Dependence

If the business can’t operate without you, it’s difficult to sell. Document your processes, create standard operating procedures, and build a team that can run the day-to-day business without constant owner involvement.

Ask yourself: Could I take a month off without the business coming to a halt?

  1. Keep Financial Records Clean

Buyers invest in businesses they can understand. Accurate bookkeeping, organized financial statements, and consistent reporting build credibility and make due diligence much smoother.

Remember: Buyers purchase confidence as much as they purchase profits.

  1. Diversify Your Revenue

A business that depends on one customer, one employee, or one product carries more risk. Build multiple revenue streams and a broad customer base to make your business more resilient—and more attractive to potential buyers.

  1. Create Predictable Cash Flow

Recurring revenue, long-term customer relationships, and strong cash flow often increase business value. Focus on building a model that generates reliable income rather than chasing one-time wins.

  1. Know Your Number Before You Need It

Understand what drives the value of your business today. Regular business valuations and KPI tracking help you identify opportunities to increase value long before you’re ready to sell.

The best time to prepare for an exit isn’t when you’re ready to leave… it’s when you’re just getting started.

Lori’s Corner:

Founder’s Story

Every business has a story. Clarity Consulting began with one woman who believed that hard work, honesty, and helping others would always be worth the effort.

In 1996, while raising four young children and earning her accounting certificate in Manchester, Connecticut, Lori took a leap of faith and started her own bookkeeping business from her kitchen table. She didn’t have a large office or a team behind her. She simply had a passion for helping business owners and the determination to build something of her own.

That small business grew through relationships, trust, and years of hard work. It eventually became Comprehensive Business Solutions, a company Lori successfully sold before her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Instead of taking the easy path, she chose to start over.

In a new city with no client list and no shortcuts, Lori built Accounting By The Books from the ground up. Once again, she earned the trust of business owners one client at a time, grew the company, and successfully sold it.

Those experiences taught her something that has shaped Clarity Consulting from day one.

Business owners don’t just need someone to keep their books. They need someone who understands what it’s like to take risks, overcome challenges, and build something that matters.

Today, Clarity Consulting is built on the lessons Lori learned through nearly three decades of serving business owners and building businesses herself. Whether a client is just getting started, trying to grow, or preparing for the next chapter, Lori’s goal is the same as it has always been: to bring clarity, confidence, and peace of mind to every business owner she serves.

Now based in Fernandina Beach, Florida, Lori continues to work with clients across the country, proving that with the right guidance, strong financial foundations, and a willingness to keep moving forward, every business has the potential to become someone’s success story.
